Matte and Flat: These types leave a smooth, subtle appearance to a room and are not shiny.

Satin: This type leaves a pearl/silky appearance to a room.
Pros: Durable and stands up to cleaning. Good for high traffic areas like kitchens, bathrooms and children’s rooms. Also a good choice for trim and moldings.
Cons: This type doesn’t hide imperfections to well. Also, brush strokes/roller strokes are easily seen. Touch ups can also stand out
Semi Gloss and Gloss: This type has a bright sheen appearance to a room
Pros: Durable and is resistant to moisture, drips and grease stains making it a good choice for kitchens, bathrooms and trim/chair rails. High gloss is also a good choice for cabinets and doors because of its durability and being easy to clean.
Cons: The bright sheen this paint type has means any imperfections are highly visible. If this paint type is used on an area with imperfections, a lot of prep work is needed to smooth the surface before painting. Touch ups can also be visible as well.
